Devotional: The Courage to Knock

Scripture:

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

— Matthew 7:7 (ESV)

God’s provision is often waiting on the other side of obedience but obedience requires both courage and faith.

It takes courage to knock on the door God has told you to knock on. That knock might look like applying for the job, having the hard conversation, stepping into a new season, or trusting God beyond what feels comfortable. Courage is not the absence of fear it is choosing obedience even when fear is present.

But courage alone is not enough. It also takes faith. Faith believes that when God tells you to knock, He already knows what’s behind the door. Faith trusts that what He has prepared is good, purposeful, and perfectly timed. Faith reaches out, expecting God to respond not because we deserve it, but because He is faithful to His Word.

Jesus reminds us that God is not distant or withholding. He invites us to ask, to seek, and to knock. Each action requires movement an intentional step toward God. And with every step, we align ourselves with His promises.

Sometimes we hesitate because we’re afraid of what might happen if the door opens. Other times, we fear what might happen if it doesn’t. But God calls us not to focus on the outcome. He calls us to trust Him with obedience. The provision is His responsibility; the knocking is ours.

Today, be encouraged: the door God has placed before you is not a test meant to defeat you. It is an invitation to trust Him more deeply. Have the courage to knock. Have the faith to believe. And be ready to receive what God has already prepared for you.

Prayer:

Lord, give me the courage to knock on the doors You place before me and the faith to trust what You have prepared on the other side. Help me to walk in obedience, knowing that Your provision is always good and always on time. Amen.
